Tuesday 18.8.2009 6pm. Finnish Snow-walks and Dances (Lumimusiikki -kokoelma) in Harakka island auditorium by Gabi Schaffner. Approx. 25-30 min lecture will be held in English.
The lecture introduces a selection of traditional and modern pieces from the album. A mixture of traditional songs and modern arrangements will be presented, and also a "Lumi-core"-dance video might be shown. Despite the fact that snow music has existed in Finland ever since, hardly any recordings of it are known. In collaboration with the Finnish music anthropologist Sisukas Poronainen, Schaffner has collected these pieces during her research (2001-2004). The album was released in 2005.
During the evening 18.8. there will be also many exhibition openings in Harakka by Harakka artists, so you can also participate in them. The boat to Harakka (3,5 e is there & back price) leaves from Ullanlinna pier in Kaivopuisto - in the front of Cafe Ursula from 5pm to 7pm to Harakka in every 20 minutes.
Gabi Schaffner lives and works between Frankfurt and Berlin, Helsinki and Lobo, Texas as a writer, photographer and audio artist. June-August she is residence artist in HIAP.
