Sketchup #1: a note about the process...
Yesterday, following Hildegard Projekt in planning Wednesday´s exhibition and also realising one project for the camera it was fascinating to see how the drawings and photographs by the individual artists became material for a flock or a swarm of artworks...
...which (using the term coined by french philosopher Gilles Deleuze) deterritorialises their original individual quality, transforming it to collective pluralism - which every artwork manifest in their own multiplicities.

Lilli Kinnusen teos Seinän läpi näkee paremmin (2011) ja Raita Virkkusen teos Kuriiri (2011) tulevat esille Eventismiin Kasematti IV näyttelytilaan (Harakan saari, 22.6 - 31.6.2011). Kasematti IV:n etutilassa on Hildegard Projektin postitaidenäyttely. Avajaiset ovat 22.6. klo 17-20, jonka jälkeen seuraa whitecolors -kollektiivin järjestämä 24 tunnin Dream House -konsertti.

Dream House - 24 hour concert / Dream House - 24 tunnin konsertti
Dream House
whitecolors -kollektiivi ja Kokeellisten taiteiden nomadinen akatemia järjestävät minimalistisäveltäjä La Monte Youngin innoittaman 24:n tunnin mittaisen Dream House-konsertin. Yhtenä drone-musiikin isänä pidetty Young suunnitteli 60-luvulla Dream House'iksi nimitettyjä konsertteja, joissa äänet ja valot sulautuivat pitkäkestoisiksi kokemuksiksi.
Kahtatoista eri esiintyjää (sooloja ja ryhmiä) on pyydetty Harakan saaren Kasematti IV galleriaan toteuttamaan Youngin konseptisävellyksen #10 vuodelta 1960; "draw a straight line and follow it", kukin oman tulkintansa mukaan ilman genrerajoituksia. Kaikki soittajat esiintyvät kahdesti vuorokauden aikana, tunnin pituisissa jaksoissa.

Young, who is considered one of the pioneers of drone music, realized in the 60s concerts called Dream House's, where sounds and lights created extended experiences.
Twelve different performers (solos and groups) have been asked to come to the island of Harakka's Kasematti IV gallery and realize Young's composition #10 from the year 1960: "draw a straight line and follow it”, each with their own means with no genre restrictions. Every player is going to perform twice in one hour long periods.

Postitaidetta Harakan saaressa kesällä 2011
Saksalais-suomalainen taiteilijaryhmä Hildegard Projekt ja Kokeellisten taiteiden nomadinen akatemia ystävineen järjestää postitaidenäyttelyn Harakan saaressa Helsingissä 22.-30.6.2011.
Hildegard Projekt on kahdeksan vakituisen taiteilijajäsenen ja useiden näyttelykohtaisten taiteilijavierailijoiden ryhmä, joka on järjestänyt näyttelyitä Saksassa ja Suomessa. Keväällä 2011 Hildegard Projekt järjesti ensimmäisen postitaidenäyttelynsä Berliinissä hylätyssä entisen Itä-Saksan Irakin suurlähetystörakennuksessa. Ryhmä jatkaa postitaidenäyttelyn perinnettä Harakassa näyttelyllä, joka on avataan yleisölle Harakan saaren Kasematti IV:ssä keskiviikkona 22.6.2011 klo 17 - 20. Avajaisten jälkeen näyttelytilassa on Dream House, 24 tunnin konsertti.

Mail art in Harakka Island summer 2011
Hildegard Projekt is a group of 8 permanent artist members and several artist visitors in different exhibitions, exhibiting in Germany and in Finland. In the spring 2011 Hildegard Projekt organized their first mail art exhibition in Berlin in an abandoned Irak embassy building in East Germany. The group continues the tradition of mail art in Harakka in an exhibition that will be opened to the audience in Kasematti IV on wednesday 22.6.2011 5pm - 8pm. After the opening there will be a 24 hour concert Dream House in the exhibition space.

Fast food for ears - diy synth workshop in Harakka 22.6.2011
Työpaja on johdanto tee-se-itse syntikoiden maailmaan, voit suunnitella omia kontaktimikrofoni-sovellutuksia ja leikitellä CMOS ic-piirien kanssa. Itse työpajan kesto on kolme tuntia mutta päivän aikana on muutakin ohjelmaa, joten on hyvä varata aikaa.
Työpajan aikana esitellään äänipiirin kolme eri vaihetta:
1. Koekytkentälevyn prototyyppi
2. Kuparilevylle juotettu versio
3. Soittovalmis koteloitu versio
Työpajan osallistujat rakentavat äänipiirin ensin koekytkentälevylle. Sen jälkeen he voivat tehdä kokeiluja erilaisten elektronisten komponenttien (vastukset, konkat jne.) kanssa.
Rakennettavat projektit: Esivahvistin, kontaktimikrofoni, nand syntikka, yksinkertainen matriisisyntikka
Työpajan vetäjät:
Dennis Tan on singaporelainen äänitaiteilija, hän asuu Bremenissä, Saksassa. Äänitaiteilijana hän tekee ääni-installaatioita, jotka ovat samanaikaisesti veistoksellisia ja sävellyksellisiä. Hän on myös kirjoittanut graafisia notaatioita muusikoille ja ei-muusikoille.
Jukka Hautamäki on Helsingissä asuva ja työskentelevä mediataiteilija. Hän on turkulais-lähtöisen kokeellisen elektroniikan yhdistyksen Kokomyksen (kokomys.org) perustajajäsen. Hautamäki on pitänyt äänitaide- ja elektroniikkatyöpajoja sekä luentoja Suomessa, Saksassa ja Ranskassa.
HUOM! TYÖPAJAAN MAHTUU MUKAAN VAIN 8 HENKILÖÄ! Aiempi kokemus elektroniikasta ei ole tarpeen. Pieni materiaalimaksu, synakitit alkaen 5 euroa. Varausmaksu (5€) pakollinen.

FAST FOOD FOR EARS -WORKSHOP
The workshop is an introduction into the world of building your own diy synths, making contact microphones and having fun with CMOS chips. The workshop will be conducted in three hours.
During the workshop three different stages of a circuit will be presented:
1. Prototype on breadboard
2. Soldering on copper stripboard
3. Mount electronics in a box for ready-to-play version.
Participants will build the circuit first on the breadboard. After that they are encouraged to experiment with the circuits, listening to the differences between components (resistors, capacitors etc.).
Projects include: Preamp, making a contact microphone, nand synth, simple matrix synth.
About workshop tutors:
Dennis Tan is a singaporean sound artist living and working in Bremen, Germany. As a sound artist, he makes sound installation which are both sculptural and compositional. He has also written graphical notations for musicians or none musicians alike.
Jukka Hautamäki is media artist living and working in Helsinki, Finland. He is founding member of Turku based experimental electronics association Kokomys (kokomys.org). Hautamäki has kept sound art and electronics workshops and lectures in Finland, Germany and France.
OBS! WORKSHOP IS FOR MAX. 8 PEOPLE ONLY! Previous knowledge of electronics is not required. Small fee for materials, synth kit prices starting from 5 euros. Pre-payment (5€) required. FAST FOOD FOR EARS -WORKSHOP
The workshop is an introduction into the world of building your own diy synths, making contact microphones and having fun with CMOS chips. The workshop will be conducted in three hours.
During the workshop three different stages of a circuit will be presented:
1. Prototype on breadboard
2. Soldering on copper stripboard
3. Mount electronics in a box for ready-to-play version.
Participants will build the circuit first on the breadboard. After that they are encouraged to experiment with the circuits, listening to the differences between components (resistors, capacitors etc.).
Projects include: Preamp, making a contact microphone, nand synth, simple matrix synth.
About workshop tutors:
Dennis Tan is a singaporean sound artist living and working in Bremen, Germany. As a sound artist, he makes sound installation which are both sculptural and compositional. He has also written graphical notations for musicians or none musicians alike.
Jukka Hautamäki is media artist living and working in Helsinki, Finland. He is founding member of Turku based experimental electronics association Kokomys (kokomys.org). Hautamäki has kept sound art and electronics workshops and lectures in Finland, Germany and France.

Sound, noise and music are treated as equal elements. „Musiques d’Orion“ follows the music around... whether it is in your head, outside or "behind a green door".
The album is going to be released with entr’acte.uk – probably in June 2011.

In April 2011 AAVE (in Finnish: ghost, spectre) is back to haunt the cultural centre Malmitalo. The Helsinki based festival of audiovisual arts, successfully launched in 2010, will be offering a refreshing experience for many rewarding days, for any fan of cinema and art. This year the event at Malmitalo is again completely free of charge.AAVE will present a selection of short films and full-length feature treats as was done last year. In the short film selection of 2010, we showcased works from Europe and Americas, and now it's time to turn our attention to the lights and shadows of Middle East and North Africa. There will be both experimental and more traditional short films presented.
Our very own full-length feature series "Oishii! Japanese delicacies" continues to explore the rich cinematic history of the land of the rising sun. All films introduce the strong personal style of their directors.
Every festival evening will end with a unique show where live music and moving imagery complement each other. Our live-performers will be Ponytail (with live-installation), Grey Park, Dieter Müh (UK), Seppo Renvall & Maija Saksman and Helsinki Poetry Connection. More additional value is brought by the premiere of a new dance show "Measuring -coordinates, energy, time and gravity", by Mikko Kallinen & The Company, where various art-pieces move inside an axis of live performance/video-virtual world.
This years programme also includes two new festival categories, a fantasy-themed animated classics selection for all ages, and a compact compilation of new Finnish media art.
The weekend's VJ workshop will provide an interesting opportunity for interact with our audience. AAVE will be also travelling out of Malmitalo to Kallio, by visiting Siltanen and Porvoonkadun Baari for outstanding VJ sessions, and the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts for the panel discussion of our guest curators Marcel Schwierin and Silke Schmickl.

This year's festival will host audiovisual artists, curators and live-performers from six different countries.
Our Finnish guests will be director and artist Seppo Renvall, artist, music performer and composer Maija Saksman, dance performance collective Mikko Kallinen & The Company, the experimental electronics unit Grey Park, musician Samuli Tanner and Helsinki-based media and sound artist Gregoire Rousseau (FR/FI). Helsinki Poetry Connection -collective will partecipate with four artists, J. K. Ihalainen & Sándor Vály (HU/FI) sekä Harri Hertell & Dxxxa D.

Aave ei katso ikää, luokkaa tai lompakkoa
Huhtikuussa 2011 AAVE palaa kummittelemaan Helsingin Malmitalolle. Viime vuonna menestyksekkäästi aloittanut audiovisuaalisen taiteen festivaali tarjoaa jälleen virvatulien kaltaista värinää, väpätystä ja lepatusta moneksi antoisaksi päiväksi. Tapahtuma on edelleenkin täysin ilmainen.Edellisen vuoden tapaan esitämme niin lyhytelokuvia kuin pitkiä herkkujakin. Kun viime vuonna tutkamme suuntautui lyhytelokuvien osalta kohti Eurooppaa ja Amerikoita, niin tänä vuonna fokuksessamme ovat Lähi- idän ja Pohjois-Afrikan valot ja varjot. Luvassa on sekä kokeellisempaa että perinteisempää elokuvaa.
Kokopitkien elokuvien osalta "Oishii! Japanilaisia herkkuja" -sarja jatkaa nousevan auringon maan rikkaan elokuvahistorian esittelemistä. Kaikissa esillä olevissa elokuvissa näkyy vahvasti ohjaajansa käsiala. Jokainen festivaali-ilta päättyy elävään iltaesitykseen, jossa live-musiikki ja liikkuva kuva kohtaavat. Festivaalin arvoa nostattaa myös ensi-iltaan tuleva Mikko Kallinen & The Company -ryhmän tanssiesitys, jossa teokset liikkuvat live-esiintyminen/video-virtuaalimaailma akselilla.
Viikonlopun VJ-työpaja antaa mahdollisuuden myös omaan vuorovaikutteiseen tekemiseen. Tämänvuotiset uudet sarjat tarjoavat mm. fantasiahenkisiä klassikkoanimaatioita kaikenikäisille, sekä kompaktin ja freesin katsauksen suomalaisen mediataiteen uusiin teoksiin.

AAVE - ALTERNATIVE AUDIOVISUAL EVENT 14. - 17.4.2011 in Malmitalo
AAVE EI KATSO IKÄÄ, LUOKKAA TAI LOMPAKKOA
Huhtikuun puolivälissä 14. - 17.4.2011 AAVE - ALTERNATIVE AUDIOVISUAL EVENT palaa kummittelemaan Helsingin kulttuurikeskus Malmitalolle. Audiovisuaalisen taiteen festivaali tarjoaa virvatulien kaltaista värinää, väpätystä ja lepatusta moneksi antoisaksi päiväksi. Tapahtuma on ilmainen.
Tänä vuonna fokuksessamme ovat Resistance(s) ja Arab Shorts -esityssarjojen kautta vavahduttavalla ja järkyttävälläkin tavalla tänä vuonna koko maailman huomion keskipisteeseen jälleen tulleet Pohjois-Afrikan ja Lähi-idän valot ja varjot. Luvassa on perinteisiä ja kokeellisia lyhytelokuvia sekä videoteoksia näiltä maantieteellisiltä alueilta. Kokopitkien elokuvien osalta "Oishii! Japanilaisia herkkuja" -sarja jatkaa viime vuonna alkanutta nousevan auringon maan rikkaan elokuvahistorian esittelemistä. Kaikissa elokuvissa näkyy vahvasti ohjaajansa henkilökohtainen käsiala.
Jokainen festivaali-ilta päättyy elävään iltaesitykseen, jossa live-musiikki ja liikkuva kuva kohtaavat. Kotimaisia live-esiintyjinä ovat Ponytail , Grey Park, Seppo Renvall & Maija Saksman sekä Helsinki Poetry Connection. Festivaalin moniarvoisuutta nostattaa myös Mikko Kallinen & The Company -ryhmän multimedia tanssiesitys ”Measuring - coordinates, energy, time and gravity” (ensi-ilta). Muista vieraistamme mainittakoon Iván Torres Hdez (ES/FI) & Hugo Olim (PT), jotka tulevat vetämään ainutlaatuisen VJ-setin sekä viikonlopun VJ- työpajan, jossa annetaan mahdollisuus myös omaan vuorovaikutteiseen tekemiseen.
Festivaalin tämänvuotiset uudet sarjat tarjoavat mm. klassikkoanimaatioita kaikenikäisille, sekä katsauksen suomalaisen mediataiteen uusiin teoksiin. Monipuolisen ohjelmatarjonnan täydentävät tietenkin festivaalin kotimaiset ja kansainväliset vieraat. Viimemainittuihin kuuluvat myös kuraattorit Silke Schmickl (FR), Marcel Schwierin (GR) sekä live-esiintyjiin lukeutuva ääni / noise-taiteilija Dieter Müh (UK).

AAVE FESTIVAL - FOR ANY AGE, CLASS STATUS OR WALLET
In the middle of April 14.4-17.4.2011 AAVE (in Finnish: ghost, spectre) - ALTERNATIVE AUDIOVISUAL EVENT is back to haunt the cultural centre Malmitalo. The Helsinki- based festival of audiovisual arts, successfully launched in 2010, will be offering a refreshing experience for many rewarding days, for any fan of cinema and art. This year the event at Malmitalo is again completely free of charge.
Through the special programs Resistance(s) and Arab Shorts AAVE will turn the attention to the lights and shadows of North Africa and Middle East in the selection of traditional and experimental short films and video art from the area that has been in the focus of attention of the whole world because of the dramatic events that have shaken the structures of arabic societies. Our full-length feature series "Oishii! Japanese delicacies" continues to explore the rich cinematic history of the land of the rising sun which unfortunately has experienced a tremendeous losses and catastrophes in this spring. All films introduce the strong personal style of their directors.
Every festival evening will end with a unique show where live music and moving imagery complement each other. Our domestic live-performers are Ponytail (with live installation), Grey Park, Seppo Renvall & Maija Saksman and Helsinki Poetry Connection. Additional value is brought by the première of a new dance show ”Measuring - coordinates, energy, time and gravity”, by Mikko Kallinen & The Company, where various art-pieces move inside an axel of live- performance/video-virtual world.
The combination of VJ sessions and VJ workshop by Iván Torres Hdez (ES/FI) & Hugo Olim (PT) will provide an interesting opportunity for interact with our audience. This year’s programme also includes two new festival categories, animated classics selection for all ages, and a compact compilation of new Finnish media art.
The festival is organized by non-profit cultural association KAiKU ry, Nomadic Academy of Experimental Arts and the City of Helsinki Cultural Office. This whole ensemble is of course enriched with the presence our Finnish and international guests, such as curators Silke Schmickl (FR), Marcel Schwierin (GR) and sound / noise artist Dieter Müh (UK).

I write to welcome you & other Public School or Nomadic Academy
members (please forward) to the two upcoming Pixelversity events that launch this years programme:

Klo 16-17.30, Kultur Kontakt Nord office on Suomenlinna, as part of
this year's Pixelache Festival.
In my own experience of teaching Digital Media Culture course in
Metropolia, at Aalto TaiK/Pori/Medialab and elsewhere, as well as
organising workshops for various cultural festivals in Helsinki, I am aware of the subtle and overlapping relations between formal education courses in art/new media/cultural management and also that which takes place informally in the cultural scene.
I hope to use the occasion of an open circle gathering during the
festival to launch the Pixelversity programme, and invite related
local educators such as yourself to gather together. It will also
ideally be a chance to meet with festival guests who are interested in education at different levels.
The occasion will be set up as an unstructured and open forum, with
discussion in english. Welcome to bring questions to add to the query:
What role do festivals and cultural organisations have in education?
How can organised networks provide curricula? Do you know techniques
for transdisciplinary or undisciplinary studies? What and where do you wish to study and how do they connect?.. What can be Pixelversity?
You do not need to have a Pixelache Festival pass to attend the
Pixelversity gathering. If you agree to attend and confirm your
presence, I'll be happy to hear from you in advance.
