Kokeellinen meditaatio A-Bomb Domen (Genbaku domu) ympärillä Hiroshimassa. Vuonna 1915 rakennettu entinen messuhalli (Industrial promotion Hall) oli ainoa rakennus joka jäi pystyyn atomipommin räjähdyksessä. Nykyisin se on Unescon maailmanperintökohde Hiroshimassa ja symbolinen muistomerkki Hiroshimassa elokuussa 1945 kuolleille sadoilletuhansille ihmisille


An experimental meditation around the A-Bomb Dome, a former Japanese business centre, now a symbol of the destruction of the city of Hiroshima by the American atomic bomb in 1945. Built in 1915, it was the only building to remain standing in the immediate vicinity of the explosion. Having never been repaired it remains as it was the day of the bombing, and hence symbol to the hundreds of thousands dead in August 1945.

Nobody Knows, Hirokazu Kore-eda 2004. K-11 – Malmitalo, Juhlasali


Hirokazu Kore-edan Nobody Knows (2001) on saanut innoituksensa todellisesta hylkäämistapauksesta. Yksinhuoltajaäiti Keiko ja 12-vuotias Akira-poika muuttavat uuteen asuntoon Tokiossa. Vuokraisäntä ei tiedä, että asuntoon on piilotettu kolme muuta lasta. Kun Keiko lähtee uuden miesystävän matkaan, Akiralle jää vastuu nuoremmista sisaruksistaan. Kore-edan mukaan lapset tulevat hyvin toimeen keskenään, muodostaen keskenään eräänlaisen hippikommuunin. Tragedia syntyy siitä että tapahtumaketjun aikana ympäröivä yhteiskunta on mieluummin tietämättä lasten todellisuudesta.


Hirokazu Kore-eda's Nobody Knows (2001) was inspired by a real child abandonment in Tokyo. Single mother Keiko and 12-year-old son Akira move into a new apartment in Tokyo. The landlord doesn't know that there are three other children hidden in the flat. When Keiko takes off with a new boyfriend, Akira is left with the responsibility of managing the household and looking after his younger siblings. According to Kore-eda the kids are alright, forming together a kind of hippie commune. The tragedy lies in that society has allows it to happen, and would rather not know.

Esityksessä musiikki, liikkuva kuva ja tanssi hallitsevat Malmisalin tilaa kukin
vuorollaan asettaen toisilleen rajoja. Ihminen on läsnä ajallisen tietoisuutensa
eri tasoilla, aistimaailmansa armoilla, alitajunnan tuntemattomalla maaperällä.

Mitkä ovat rajat, jotka hahmottavat sisäistä ja ulkoista maailmaamme,
kannattaako niitä ylittää ja millä tavoin se tapahtuu?

Salla Hakkola on valmistunut Sibelius-Akatemiasta vuonna 2006 ja
työskentelee sekä folk-harpistina että säveltäjänä modernin taidemusiikin,
kansanmusiikin ja rytmimusiikin parissa sekä yhteistyössä eri alojen
taiteilijoiden kanssa. Hakkolan musiikkia on kuultu mm. uuden musiikin
festivaalilla Musica Novassa Tuulia Susiahon videoteoksessa, Haapavesi Folk-
festivaalilla, Idaho International Folk Dance and Music Festival:lla Usa:ssa
sekä tanssiteoksissa, animaatioissa ja näytelmissä.

Kuubalainen Kirenia Macías (s. 1979) on opiskellut tanssia ja teatteritaidetta
Kuubassa sekä Espanjassa. Hän on ollut mukana useassa kansainvälisessä
teatteriryhmässa ja tehnyt kiertueita ympäri Eurooppaa. Suomessa Kirenia
on asunut vuodesta 2004 lähtien. Hän toimii vapaana taiteilijana sekä
tanssiopettajana pääkaupunkiseudulla.

Tuulia Susiaho on Kuvataideakatemiasta valmistunut taiteilija, jonka
videoteoksia ja installaatioita on ollut esillä useissa ryhmänäyttelyissä
Suomessa ja ulkomailla sekä yksityisnäyttelyssä Helsingissä.

Music, moving image and dance conquer the space of Malmisali each one in turn,
setting borders to each other. Human presence happens in different levels of
the consciousness, surrounded by it´s world of senses and in the unknown ground
of its unconsciousness. Which are the borders, giving features to our inner and
outer world? Do we have to surpass them and if we do, how do we do it?

Salla Hakkola has graduated from Sibelius Academy in 2006. She works as a
folk-harpist and composer in the fields of modern dance music, folk music,
rhythm music and together with artists from other fields of arts. Hakkola´s
music has been performed in example in Musica Nova festival in Tuulia Susiaho´s
video work, Haapavesi Folk Festival, Idaho International Folk Dance and Music
Festival in USA and in dance works, animations and theatre plays.

Cuban Kirenia Macias (b. 1979) has been studying dance and theatre in Cuba and
in Spain. He has worked in several international theatre groups and toured in
Europe. She has lived in Finland since the year 2004. She works as an
independent artist and dance theatre in Helsinki area.

Tuulia Susiaho is a graduate of the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts. Her video
works and installations have been featured at many group exhibitions
in Finland and abroad and at a solo exhibition in Helsinki.

AAVE - Alternative AudioVisual Event presents: Mobiilivideoworkshop. Lyhytelokuvia taskussasi!

Jorge Rodriguez Barcelonan ALGOBUENOsta tulee AAVE-festivaalin kutsumana pitämään mobiilivideoworkshopin. Sosiaalisen audiovisuaalisen tarinankerronan työpaja on tarkoitettu kaikille, joita kiinnostavat oman elämän tarinat ja niiden jakaminen videon keinoin. Osallistujat voivat toteuttaa helpolla ja innostavalla tavalla jokapäiväisen ympäristönsä, ystäviensä, maansa tai perheensä inspiroimia lyhyitä tarinoita, jotka kerrotaan käyttäen taskusta löytyvää teknologiaa. Työpaja on jaettu kahteen osaan:

OSA 1 - LA 17.4.2010 klo 13:00
Tarinan kirjoittaminen: tarjoamme opastusta ja yksinkertaisia tekniikoita lyhyen tarinan kehittelemiseen alkaen ideasta ja sen kehittämisestä liikkuviksi kuviksi ja ääniksi.

OSA 2 - SU 18.4.2010 klo 13:00
Videon nauhoitus: osallistujat tutkivat, tallentavat ja luovat ne kuvat, jotka kertovat heidän tarinansa. Kirjoitetut tarinat editoidaan ja esitetään osallistujille ja muulle yleisölle yhteistyössä työpajan pitäjän kanssa.

Puhelimet ja formaatit
3GP, 3GPP, MP4, AVI ja Divx ovat yleisimmät formaatit, 3GP on kansainvälinen formaatti. Nokian yleisemmin käyttämät formaatit ovat MP4 format & 3GP, Samsungin 3GP, Sony Ericssonin 3GP ja MP4, LGAvi ja DIVX.

Ohjeita ja suosituksia
1. Täydet akut ja tyhjät muistikortit!!!
2. Yksinkertaisuus on voimaa!
3. Kirjoita idea ylös mutta työskentele vapaasti ja improvisoi
4. Tee 3-osainen rakenne tarinaasti (esittely, juoni ja ratkaisu).
5. Käytä päivittäistä ympäristöäsi, kotiasi, työtä, ystäviäsi, kaupunkiasi.
6. Tarinan ei tarvitse olla pitkä vaan jotain mikä kiinnostaa tai johon olet kiinnittänyt huomiota aikaisemmin.
7. Tarinasi voi olla dokumentaarinen tai fiktiivinen, käytä todellisia tai fantastisia elementtejä tehdäksesi siitä jännittävämpi.

Osallistujilla on oltava mobiilipuhelin, jossa on videonauhoitus. Suositellaan ulkoisen / siirrettävän kortin käyttöä. Edeltävä tieto videosta ei ole tarpeen. Kannettava tietokone Movie Maker (PC) tai iMovie (Mac) –ohjelmalla olisi hyödyllinen.

Mobile Phone Video Workshop: Short movies in your pocket!

Jorge Rodriguez from ALGOBUENO, Barcelona is invited by the AAVE-festival to have a workshop on mobilevideo short films. This workshop is entitled to those interested in telling their daily histories and sharing them through video using our daily life technologies. In a simple and inspiring way the participants of this workshop will create short stories inspired by their cities, friends, country or family to be narrated by images captured with a mobile phone. The workshop is divided in two main parts:

PART 1 - SAT 17.4.2010 at 13:00
Writing the story : we´ll provide hints and simple techniques to develop a short story starting with an idea and developing into moving images and sound.

PART 2 - SUN 18.4.2010 at 13:00
Taping the video: participants will explore, capture and create those images that will tell their story. Using the stories written in the first part video editing and screening to the group will be made by the instructor of the workshop. A final screening and comments will be done for the participants of the workshops and friends

Phones and formats
3GP, 3GPP, MP4, AVI y Divx are the most common formats, 3GP is the universal format. Nokia frequently operates MP4 format & 3GP, Samsung 3GP, Sony Ericsson 3GP and MP4,LGAvi and DIVX.

Tips and Recommendations
1. Batteries full and memory cards empty!!!
2. Make it simple
3. Write down the idea but work freely and improvise
4. Make a 3 part structure for your story (introduction, plot and resolution.
5. Use your daily environment, home, work, friends, city.
6. It does not have to be a long story, something you find relevant curious or that frequentlycatches your attention will make it.
7. Your story can be documentary or fiction, use reality or fantasy to make it more exciting

Participants should have a mobile phone with video recording external / removablecard recommended. Previous knowledge of video is not necessary. A laptop computer with Movie Maker (PC) or iMovie (Mac) would be very useful.

You/Me, Asko Keräsen (22-pistepirkko) ja Marjatta Ojan duo soittaa laulujaan keikalla, jolla saavat seurakseen Oliver Whiteheadin kiehtovat liikkuvat kuvat. Ryhmä on esiintynyt yhdessä Helsingin lisäksi myös muun muassa Berliinissä ja Tukholmassa.

You/Me esittää avaruus-elektro-pop-musiikkia sähkökitaralla, groove-boxilla, lauluilla ja live-video -seteillä, jotka liikkuvat vapaasti useilla tasoilla ja suunnilla riippuen siitä miltä esittäjistä tuntuu. Esityksissä keskeistä on tunne synkronisaatiosta soiton, laulun ja live-videon; sähkökitaran, syntetisaattorin, äänten ja kuvien välillä, joihin on helppo liittyä vapaasti tai toisaalta tuntea vastakkaisestikin.

Evening Events in AAVE Alternative AudioVisual Event. Living and raw foods as moving images for the hungry ones.

You/Me, a duo of Asko Keränen (22-pistepirkko) and Marjatta Oja will play a gig where they perform their songs, together with engaging moving images by Oliver Whitehead. The group has been performing together for example in Helsinki, Stockholm and Berlin.

The performances of You/Me are space-electro-pop-music with electric guitar, groove-box, vocals and live-video sets that move freely on several levels and directions depending on how we feel. In our performances we feel the synchronisation between the playing, singing and live-video projection with, electric guitar, synthesizer, voices and images to which it’s easy to associate or on the other hand feel contradictions. The last days of World War 2 in a solitary Nazi-outpost hidden in the middle of the Alps. The german commander orders a young soldier to be shot by a platoon. What started out as a montage of facts becomes a one-take revealing the true horror of war. Caught inside a narrative loop the spectator must question his own perception.

Näytämme yhteistyössä barcelonalaisen l'Alternativan kanssa laadukasta euramerikkalaista nykylyhytelokuvaa, samoin barcelonalaisen Algobuenon kanssa latinalaisamerikkalaisia nuoriso- ja opiskelijaohjauksia sekä italialaisen Amarcort Film Festivalin kanssa italialaisia lyhytelokuvia. Luvassa parhautta.

Hiroshi Teshigahara: SUNA NO ONNA (WOMAN IN THE DUNES, 1964)

Säveltäjä Toru Takemitsun minimalistinen musiikki magnetisoi Hiroshi Teshigaharan ohjaaman Kobo Aben kertomukseen pohjautuvan japanilainen elokuva Woman in the Dunes (Suna No Onna, 1964) soundtrackin. Woman in the Dunes on kaunis ja hypnoottinen tarina, jota pelkistetty mustavalkoinen estetiikka tukee. Elokuvan kestossa Teshigaran kuvat alkavat muistuttaa jopa abstrakteja maisemia, johtuen niiden huippuunsa viedystä korkeakontrastisesta mustavalkoisuudesta.

Composer Toru Takemitsu´s minimalist music magnetifies the soundtrack of Hiroshi Teshigahara´s film Woman In the Dunes (Suna No Onna, 1964) which is based on the tale by Kobo Abe. It is a beautiful and hypnotic story, accompanied by the simple black & white aesthetics. In the duration of the film, Teshigara´s images start to resemble even the abstract landscapes, because of their over-the-top high-contrasted black & white - imagery.


Kieltäytyen tunnustamasta genrerajoja, AAVE täyttää aukon Helsingin liikkuvan kuvan festivaalikartalla yhdistäessään live-cineman, kokeellisen elokuvan ja lyhytelokuvan. Teoksia on nähtävillä lähes kaikista ilmansuunnista - Suomesta, Japanista, Etelä-Amerikasta, Espanjasta, Italiasta ja muista maista.

Welcome to the opening of AAVE-festival on Thursday 15.4.2010 at 6pm in Malmitalo! During the opening day we will be screening the masterpiece of Hiroshi Teshigahara Woman in the Dunes (Suna No Onna, 1964), brought to Malmitalo in collaboration with The Japan Foundation.

”TIPAHTIVATKO TUTKIJAT TAIVAALTA?”

Kobarweng on lentokonekaappausten historiaa käsitelleen, vuoden 1997 Kasselin
Dokumenta -taidetapahtumassa ensiesityksensä saaneen provokatiivisen
videoesseen DIAL H-I-S-T-O-R-Yn (1997) tekijän Johan Grimonprezin aikaisempi
teos. Kokeellisen videodokumentin lähtökohtana ovat Uuden Guinean Irian Jayalla asuvien papualaisten ja länsimaalaisten antropologien ensimmäiset kohtaamiset vuonna 1959. Kobarweng merkitsee helikopterin ääntä, johon länsimaalaisten tulo liittyy. Tutkijoiden tulo taivaalta hämmentää papualaisia mutta he suhtautuvat heihin myös ironialla: "Emme koskaan kerro kaikkea. Säästämme aina jotain seuraavalle antropologille." Ilmeisesti Grimonprez osoittaa elokuvassa näkökulmien vaihdoilla kuinka toiseuden ja vierauden kokemus lähtee aina kokijan omasta yhteisöstä.

Anssi Kasitonnin lyhytelokuva Tutkijat lähestyy aihettaan humaanin fantasian keinoin. Itse rakennetussa "sukellusveneessä" kuvattu teos on kuin kuva
lapsuuden kuvitelmista aikuisuuden kynnyksellä. Se on ujostelemattoman
romanttinen lyhytelokuva, jossa roolipelinomainen dialogi ja muistumat
lapsuuden Jules Vernen aiheisiin perustuvista elokuvista ja tv-sarjoista
kohtaavat. Kasitonnin perustamalla ironiavapaalla alueella nämä muistumat
erikoisefekteineen palautetaan sinne mistä ne ovat lähtöisin: mielikuvituksen sfääriin, hämäävän kevyeen leikkiin joka nostaa esiin todelliset tunteet elämän perustavista asioista. Elokuvaan on myös humaanin sukellusveneen kapteenin hahmossa tallentunut eräs Markku Peltolan viimeisimpiä esiintymisiä, tämän kuoltua samana vuonna pitkäaikaisen sairauden murtamana.

Guattari Masterclass in Turku by Mollecular organisation

The fourth workshop series of the Guattari Master Class “Exhausted subject, impossible community” focuses on the conceptual adventures of the subject in the past fifty years of European critical thought and the present precarization of the subject. For Bifo recombination is the technical form of the labor process in the digital environment. Recomposition means the social and cultural process enabling the fragments of labor and of general intellect to become conscious subjectivity. The recombinant form of the labor process has changed the social landscape in such a way that any social conscious recomposition seems impossible. Migrants, precarious workers, cognitive workers. They share the same condition of weakness, at different degrees, but they are unable to find a common ground of solidarity and fight. This un-recomponibility is the effect of the fractalization and precarization of labor made possible by the digitalization of the production process. The virtualization of the social production seems to be destroying the prerequisites of living relationship, absorbing and neutralizing the living energies of the cognitive workers. Also the experience of the first decade of the century, the experience of the global movement against capitalist globalization seems to imply the uncomponibility of labor, and the impossibility of social autonomy.

The economic recession is not only the effect of the financial craziness, but also of this de-vitalization of the social field. The psychotic boom of panic and depression, and the general decline in social desire, and in empathy. This is why the economic collapse is also the collapse of the economic epistemology. Economics cannot understand the depth of the crisis, because below the crisis of the financial exchange there is the crisis of the symbolic exchange. The question that rises from the collapse is so radical that the answer cannot be found in the conceptual framework of economics.

Is the recomposition process, conscious collective subjectivation, at all possible in this new condition, the condition of recombinant capital?

Tuesday 6.4. Historical context

The history of the movement in the 20th century and the process of subjectivation. No global justice, ethical movement without process of social subjectivation. The first decade of the new century, by a political and social point of view: the no global movement, the experience of the social forum in the world. The birth of “precarious and cognitive movement” and its political weakness. What did not work? Bifo’s participation in this process: the experience of www.rekombinant.org from summer 2000 to summer 2009. The conclusion of the experience: failure or a success? Theoretical core: the problem of subjectivation and the problem of rekombination and recomposition.

What interesting emerged for example from our encounters with Bifo, Sakari Hänninen, Bracha Ettinger, Brian Massumi, Erin Manning, Gary Genosko and the Ueinzz theatre company last year? What was interesting, what might work and what not, in terms of our molecular organization?

A philosophical re-examination of the concept of subject, from Hegel to the European radical thought of the late 20th century. What is the meaning of this concept? Etymology. Subject to what? Hegel (Phanomenologie das Geistes): Truth, Wholeness and Subject. The come back of Hegel in the marxism of the 20th century. Structural marxism and subjectivist marxism. Kojeve Hyppolite, Marcuse, Adorno and the dialectics of subject. Krahl and the concept of Technische Wissenschaft Intelligenz is anticipating the notion of cognitive labor. Individuation, subjectivity, singularity. Body without organs. The concept of social class.
