AAVE FESTIVAL 7. – 12.4.2015 HELSINKI
Alternative AudioVisual Event
MALMITALO AND WHS EVENTS
“The whole journey was odd and dream-like -- the roaring stream, the wet grey grass, the glimmering cliffs which they were approaching, and always the glorious, silently pacing beast ahead.”
― C.S. Lewis, Prince Caspian
After the pre-events of two days, starting from the silence and the cycles in the ongoing exhibitions in Oksasenkatu 11 and FISH galleries, watching the fragments of the events of both the past and future, eclipses and home galaxies in the NIGHT OF THE BEAMERS and experiencing the change in the time and space of our earthly bodies in the warm up -event yesterday, we are slowly, slowly opening our eyes. Today, Thursday 9.4. AAVE levitates to her nest destination, Malmitalo cultural centre. Welcome to our opening screening with a free entrance. Caspar Stracke´s and Willy Le Maitre´s 3D -works play with the limits of perception. After the opening screening we will show the anthology movie 3X3D, directed by Jean-Luc Godard, Peter Greenaway & Edgar Pêra. The tickets will cost 5 e, as the journey continues. This festival has to be lived. I can´t tell much beforehand but this journey will be unforgettable, as the travellers, who have joined in with us in the beginning of this week, have already noticed.
Malmitalo´s 3D-programme includes the films All Inclusive and Joule by Zapruder Filmmakersgroup and the stereoscopic retrospective of Dave Berg. Berg´s and Elina Reinikka´s About Happiness (Onnesta) represents the newest wave of Finnish independent cinema. Aleksander, by Polish artists couple Wilhelm & Anka Sasnal, will be screened in 35mm format. The brothers duo Pink Twins serve electrified abstractions in their spectacular Parametronomicon. Finnish video art shows its brightest spectrum in the compilation Ghost Lights ´15 and in Teemu Mäki´s video essay Madness and Society. As a special AAVE production we present a lecture spectacle, that includes two 3D-films from different eras. This screening on Friday will be the middle point of all the events in space and time that happen during the festival week.
Live Cinema -program will be experienced in WHS Theatre Union, starting with Natalia Kozieł´s & Petteri Kalliomäkis film-based performance Abstract City Symphony. Helsinki sound-electronics invites the audience to the participatory performance Koolla and Roberto Pugliese performs the experimental VJ art piece Quasi-Existence. In the last day we will enjoy Sami van Ingens stereoscopic work Hate, based on the images from the Soviet-Finnish collaboration movie Sampo and Anna Estarriola´s Ventriloquized, an existential talk between the artist and her creation show that borrows esthetics of a ventriloquist´s show. The whole festival will be closed by the wonderful gig of the excellent band Elena’s Idea (Pekka Sassi, Yuko Takeda & Veli-Matti Saarinen). Welcome to the journey with us...!
